Videoclub presents

Trojan Horse / Rainbow Flag

  • Thursday 21 February 6.30pm

The Marlborough Theatre

2 hours 00 mins

‘Trojan Horse / Rainbow Flag’ is a program of artist films exploring the role of LGBTQI+
spaces as sites of resistance, community, desire and cultural significance.

A newly commissioned film by artist Ian Giles, about the successful campaign to save the
Joiners Arms, a queer venue in East London; provides the conceptual springboard to present
recent films by artists Rob Crosse, Mathew Parkin, Hannah Quinlan; Rosie Hastings and
Patrick Staff; curated by Jamie Wyld and Ian Giles.

At a time when queer spaces across the UK are in short supply and under threat from
gentrification the screening asks what is queer space and how can all environments be read
through a queer lens?

The Marlborough was chosen to host the Brighton edition of this touring program because it is
Community Interest Company and a supportive LGBTQI+ space – the venue mirrors the ethos
of the community led campaign captured in Giles’s film.

This screening coincides with LGBT History Month in February 2019. The program is
produced by videoclub and supported by Arts Council England. Touring with the support of
Gasworks, London; HOME, Manchester; Baltic, Newcastle and Fabrica, Brighton.

6.30pm – 8pm (film screening) / 8.00pm – 8.30pm Q&A

Ear plugs are available upon request.
