Calling trans and non-binary folk!
Join prominent queer artist Travis Alabanza for an intimate dinner of burgers, chips and drinks to discuss, reflect and document the experiences of those who experience queer and transphobic public harassment.
As part of research for their upcoming theatre show ‘BURGERZ’ (2018), and as a response to the lack of public archive present around how queer and trans people navigate outside, Alabanza wants to create an archive, to hold conversations, and to discuss and talk with people about just what they experience when going outside. The evening will be a dinner table format, with food and drink provided, prompt questions, and open for people to speak and share their experiences – or listen. The event is focussed and centred for trans, non binary folk, yet open to all queer folk. There will be someone recording conversations, however only if you consent to being part of the archive documentation.
Please note: this event is focussed at trans, non binary, and gender non conforming people, and open to anyone that faces harrassment based off of their trans/queerness
This is a FREE event but please register tickets with the link below.
This evening’s Tr*nny Talks will be filmed and audio-recorded as part of Trans Bodies in Public Space – the creation of the UK’s first archive documenting how transgender and gender non-confirming people navigate public spaces. The project is led by Travis Alabanza, Hackney Showroom & Bishopsgate Institute.
If you do not wish to be filmed or recorded, you can still attend the event as an observer.
If you have any accompanying material such as photographs, letters, diary entries or press cuttings that form part of your experience, we’d love to include them – please bring them with you.
If you have a Companion/PA then they can accompany you for free, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a ticket, and let us know if you have any further access requirements. Ear plugs are available upon request.
We have a hearing loop in the theatre, you can connect to the induction loop via your hearing aid. Do this by switching your hearing aid to the T position.
